The Metropolitan Museum Costume Institute Gala had one mandate when it’s focus was to pay homage to Alexander McQueen, one edgiest designers in recent memory and that was to a fashion risk. But to pull off a great risk takes requires skill and unfortunately there were many failures on the red carpet. But in the words of the immortal Charlie Sheen we’re only concerned here with the winning and winners. So here is our succinct list of fashion risk takers who pulled off their respective looks and set our imaginations and screens on FIRE!

Vintage Vanguard. Mary-Kate the Queen of retro-chic hit the red carpet in a Givenchy couture gown with emerald accents, which she complements with a Judith Leiber clutch and Van Cleef & Arpels jewels, including “Mandarin” garnet earrings and diamond rings. Flawless!

Ray of Light. Zoe Saldana kept it simple and made the HOTTEST color the season work for her. Here Zoe is wearing the Calvin Klein Collection column dress with a long train and gold collar necklace from Platt Boutique Jewelry.

Most Beautiful girl in the world keeps it HOT in PINK. Jennifer Lopez was lived up to her title in a fuchsia peek-a-boo Gucci gown with floral bolero, pink clutch and H. Stern diamonds worth nearly $500,000.

The Golden Girl. Taylor Swift wore a nude lace J. Mendel petal gown, designed by Gilles Mendel. She added Lorraine Schwartz jewels, Christian Louboutin pumps and rocked bold crimson lips.

Champaign Wishes. Gwyneth Paltrow wore a champagne Stella McCartney gown, Christian Louboutin pumps and Fred Leighton jewels. Perfection!

The Show Stopper! No other person on the red carpet embodied the true spirit of McQueen better than his muse Daphne Guinness . The Heiress and artist got dressed in the window at Barney’s. The finished look was hailed one of the most impressive of the evening and she wore McQueen of course.

Strapless Beauty! Gisele stunted in a strapless, fire-engine red archive Alexander McQueen gown with a dramatic train, which she pairs with glittering Van Cleef & Arpels earrings and retro waves.

Peachy Queen! “Salma is incredible!” the McQueen team Tweeted of the star, who shows off her famous curves in a peach organza Alexander McQueen couture dress and a champagne-hued clutch.

Statement: Future Legend! Along with her ever-changing hairstyle, Rihanna makes a statement in her one-shoulder peekaboo lace Stella McCartney gown, Christian Louboutin sandals and Wilfredo Rosado fine jewelry.
