The fashion house of Roberto Cavalli celebrated its 40th anniversary at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts as part of Paris Fashion week Ready to Wear Spring 2011.  Kylie Minogue and Italian designer Roberto Cavalli.  Kylie performed some of her hits, like “I Should Be So Lucky” and “Can’t Get You Out of My Head.”

Roughly 1,200 guests filed in for a dinner that was served on three buffet tables in a room roughly the size of a train station. It was one of those fashion parties that felt like another era, when it was possible to enjoy such extravagance without wondering how a designer could possibly be selling enough animal-printed evening gowns and exuberantly distressed denim to afford it all.

The Cavalli company reportedly spent about $2 million on the event.  Pictured above: Naomi Campbell and Oliver Martinez, then Bar Refaeli, Taylor Swift, Carine Roitfeld.

“It’s just like when you are writing in your journal,” said Taylor Swift who wore a black Cavalli mini spritzed with silver rhinestones…Dear Diary, she imagined herself writing, “Tomorrow, I’m going to a Roberto Cavalli gala,” she said. “And then you sort of realize that all of your dreams are coming true. I’m in Paris for the first time, and I can see the Eiffel Tower from my hotel room. This is absolutely amazing to me.”

Heidi Klum introduced Mr. Cavalli, saying, “You have such a vision, and you make us look beautiful.” The designer replied, “My voice is nothing compared to what I have in my heart tonight” as a four-tier birthday cake, at least 10 feet tall was wheeled onto the stage.

DJ David Guetta, who runs the hottest dance floors of Ibiza, took over the music, transforming the space in an instant into a dance club, which was when Mr. Cavalli finally made his way into the crowd, a walking photo opportunity that rarely afforded a moment to say more than hello.  “The biggest customers for me were the wonderful, rich ladies of America, especially the ones from Malibu,” Mr. Cavalli said. - NY TIMES.com
